เฉพาะ, แค่ Just / only (Thai Grammar)

เฉพาะ (chà-páw)

Meaning: only, exclusively, specific to, only / just for a particular person, thing, or situation.

1. รับเฉพาะเงินสด 💵

    ráp chà-páw ngern sòt

(Receive only money fresh)

    We only accept cash.

2. ช่องนี้เฉพาะทางด่วน 🚗

    châwng née chà-páw taang dùan

(Channel this only way express)

This lane is for expressway use only.

3. ปิดเฉพาะวันอาทิตย์ 🛎

    bpìt chà-páw wan aa-tít

(Close only day sun)

    Closed on Sundays only.

In colloquial Thai 💬 (everyday spoken Thai),

we often use แค่ (kâe) instead of เฉพาะ (chà-páw) to mean “only” or “just.”

For example:

  • รับแค่เงินสด = We only accept cash.
  • ปิดแค่วันอาทิตย์ = Closed only on Sundays.

แค่ sounds more casual and natural in everyday conversations, while เฉพาะ sounds a little more formal or emphasizes a specific person, thing, or condition.
